Why is the storage and handling of lubricants important?
The implementation of good lubricant storage and handling practices can help deliver productivity, safety, and efficiency benefits for any operation. These practices ensure that your lubricants have not been compromised so they properly lubricate equipment to keep them running with minimal downtime whilst also helping to reduce waste.

Here are some key points that should be considered when storing and handling lubricants:
Lubricants can become contaminated while in storage
A lubricants quality doesn’t only change when in service, but also in storage. This is caused by exposure to dust, dirt, moisture, and other particles because of poor practice. In addition, long term exposure to adverse conditions such as high temperatures can affect a lubricants quality. It’s imperative that they are stored in dedicated storage areas.
Lubricants should be stored indoors
Indoor storage is always preferable however not always possible. If outside storage is the only option, store drums horizontally. Alternatively used drum covers which are an inexpensive option.
Use correct dispensing procedure equipment
Lubricants are most likely to be contaminated during dispensing. Good dispensing practices must be implemented to ensure cleanliness and minimise contamination from dust and other contaminates.
Also utilise Oilsafe dispensing containers when dispensing small quantities.
